Afro pop singer and rapper, Naira Marley, who was recently released from the custody of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegation of cyber crime, has come under attacks from his fans hours after the release of his new song, Soapy.
The controversial singer, in his new song, attempted to share the story of his time in the Ikoyi Prison where he was remanded until his bail conditions were met. Fans of the singer who took to their social media platforms spared no words to bash Marley, telling him he should have remained calm rather being controversial again.
Many people who saw a short video of the singer on his Instagram account where he was seen dancing in an attempt to make the song go viral were of the opinion that the rapper had not learnt his lessons and would soon run into more troubles if care was not taken.
The short video featured Marley introducing a new dance step. The singer claimed that ‘Soapy’ tells the story of his time behind bars and how he survived in jail, but a large section of his fans were not having any of it.
They insisted that his songs had always glorified crimes and sexual indecency, but Marley appeared to be enjoying the bashing and the media attention.
An Instagram user, Wale Adetona @iSlimfit said “From glorifying Yahoo Yahoo and Drugs. Naira Marley has now moved on to glorifying masturbation with his new song. And that is somebody’s role model. I feel sorry for y’all. SHAME!”
Another fan, @Drolufunmilayo, wrote: “I’m not surprised about Naira Marley’s new song or dance- which really looks like the display of a moronic earthworm when salt is poured on it. The chap has been very consistent in proving he has nothing upstairs whatsoever. Surprised? I’m disappointed that you are surprised.”
Another one described Marley’s song as trash, saying “From cyber crime to masturbating. I don’t know how someone will just say I want to sing about useless things always. Which one be soapy? Rubbish— Yacim emmanuel (@yacim986)
“This is what happens when upcoming stay in prison small and wants to sing about his experience Naira Marley— Ilenikhena ehinomen (@Ilenikhenaehin1).”
In Naira Marley’s simple reaction to the criticisms, he said “I am just concentrating on my craft and my career. The fans can talk, mine is to keep them talking through my music.”
