Manchester City
will listen to offers for Fabian Delph after they complete a club-record
£63million deal for Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri.
City have beaten Bayern Munich to
Rodri after agreeing to activate the buy-out clause in his contract. The Spain international
will complete his move to the Etihad when he returns from holiday.
However, that will
further limit Delph's first-team opportunities after he made only 13 starts
last season. City are happy to keep the England international, who has 12
months left on the five-year deal he signed when joining the club from Aston Villa for £8m in 2015.
But with Kevin de Bruyne
returning to fitness, Ilkay Gundogan set to stay at the Etihad and Phil Foden
promised more first-team action next season, Delph is likely to be squeezed out
in midfield.
He deputised at left back when
Benjamin Mendy was injured but Oleksandr Zinchenko filled that role last season
and signed a long-term contract this week. City could also re-sign Angelino
from PSV Eindhoven in a £5.3m deal.
The club are aware Delph is
keen for more playing time, not least because he wants to keep himself in
England manager Gareth Southgate's plans ahead of Euro 2020 next summer.
They are open to selling him
and Galatasaray have already expressed an interest.
Manager Pep Guardiola has been
anxious to sign a holding midfielder for some time after missing out to
Manchester United for Fred and Chelsea for Jorginho, and will be relieved that
Bayern have admitted defeat in the battle for Rodri.
City also appear to be
favourites to sign Harry Maguire, although they still have to agree a fee with
Leicester. The Premier League champions are poised to move for £50m-rated
Juventus right back Joao Cancelo if Danilo leaves.
